Saman Kannangara, MD

Saman Kannangara, MDDr. Kannangara grew up in Bethlehem, PA, where he attended Moravian Academy.

He completed undergraduate studies at Brown University, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree. His Doctor of Medicine Degree was conferred at Drexel University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed three years of internal medicine training at the Robert Wood Johnson University School of Medicine in New Jersey, after which he completed a two year fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Jefferson Medical College. Subsequently, he was on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine and a staff member of Pennsylvania Hospital.

He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His clinical and research interests include skin and soft tissue infections, MRSA, bone and joint infections, fungal infections, Lyme disease, and HIV.

Dr. Kannangara believes that empathy, patient-centered care, scientific evidence, and innovation are important elements of effective medical care.

In 2008, he joined Wesley P. Kozinn, M.D. and Sara Aquino, PA-C in their practice, Valley Infectious Disease Specialists, Ltd. in Easton, PA. Dr. Kannangara chairs the Infection Control Committee at Saint Luke’s Hospital Warren, Easton Hospital, and Coordinated Health Hospitals. He is on the active staff of all three hospitals His personal interests include international travel and running.
